Do you enjoy or ignore Valentines Day? The truth is, James and I have never really cared that much about Valentines Day. In the 10 years we’ve been in love and together we haven’t ever taken part. That seems really miserable doesn’t it?! It sounds really unromantic I know – and for people who work in celebrating romance and love you’d presume that we would be doing something special, wouldn’t you?!
The cheesy cards, the bright pinks and reds, the chocolates and cuddly toy – all the typical, Valentines Day stuff doesn’t interest me in the slightest, and never really has – and today I’ll tell you why.
I have romance in my life, in everyday moments. We prioritise each other and we show eachother how love filled and happy we feel together, every single day.
When you have this, you don’t need to get a heart balloon and chocolates to say it just once a year. I’m sure you’ve heard that before too. So, it’s not that I’m adverse to it, but I guess I feel lucky enough that I don’t have to make that effort or grand gesture to let James know what he means to Me, but it would still be nice to do something. So below I’m sharing my 5 wonderful ways which you can indulge in some togetherness…
Go to the beach
The beach is our favourite place. You can take an afternoon to stroll along your own favourite beach. Take a towel to sit on and just relax listening to the sea. You can take a blanket, coffee, a whole picnic if you like! Formby is lovely if you are based in the North West.
Have a Meal Somewhere New and Exciting
If there’s a cool new place you’ve both been meaning to try, why not now? There are some awesome new restaurants open in Manchester we would love to try, like the stylish Grand Pacific by Autralasia at Spinningfields, or the trendy industrial Artisan Kitchen and Bar. Enjoy somewhere new together, have a beautiful meal and an experience.
Have an unplugged night away
One of the most precious things you can give someone is your TIME and undivided attention – especially your loved one. Modern life means we’re always connected and reachable and I love that – but it can effect your quality time together. Even when you take a weekend off from work, are you really present? Are you checking emails, facebook and instagram? The news, your favourite blogs? I know I do! So, what about a night away together somewhere within a few hours from where you live – and leave the laptop at home, keep the phone just for emergencies – and enjoy eachothers company.
Have an Adventure
Take a hike and exlore the countryside like the beautiful Ennerdale in Cumbria. Enjoy the views, feel accomplished and have a joint experience. If you want to be way more adventurous, how about the Go Below Challenge in Snowdonia! It’s set inside a mountain and includes ziplines, abseils and traverses, boating across an underground lake and scale a waterfall! Sound exciting!? James really wants us to do this together, I’m far less keen but will give it a go – watch this space!
Under the Stars
Enjoy the stars at night together, go somewhere clear and take a blanket and flask of hot chocolate with you to enjoy as you cuddle up. This is something you see in the movies but have you ever tired it? It’s lovely, I can tell you – and it’s actually nice to do when it’s not Summer as there’s just something cute about it being cold and wrapping up warm together.
Wishing everyone love and togetherness everyday and not just for Valentines Day x
